Yeah, I'm in the camp of guys who think we actually appreciate our surroundings and the world in general better as a result of our hobby. We're loving great light in the scenery and with people seeing the decisive 'click' moments even if we don't have a camera in hand. When we're somewhere, there's time to both be the tourist and be the photographer ... "I take the same picture twice. First, with my heart, then camera." is a saying. People spend a lot of time outside the house staring at their phone's Instagram feed, taking photos is much more engaging, I reckon!
